My wife and I have been going back and forth about what flooring to use for our enclosed front porch. It has to deal with a lot of humidity and big temperature swings, plus during the summ er the windows usually stay open, so sometimes it gets some rain inside .

Friday I came up with the idea of just using exterior treated decking . My wife simply said, “Fine, do it. I’m tired of looking at it.”

Today I did just that. I felt like a genius buying the wood online at Menards ahead of time, so I could pull right into the lumber yard. The line to get into the actual store must have been 50 people deep!

For those who don’t live in the Midwest, Menards is kind of like Home Depot, but they have a proper lumber yard as well that you drive into to loan up building materials.

I did miscalculate my quantity though. I have to take 16 boards back tomorrow. Whoops!

Tonight we christened our new fire pit. The last one finally rusted out after many years of service . I cashed in some gift cards, and did a curbside pickup from Home Depot for it. Only ended up having to pay for sales tax!

Speaking of fires, the neighbor kid managed to burn up his hand me down Sentra this afternoon. The fire department was able to put it out before the whole thing went up, but the hood is pretty crispy.

That trim is a glorious shade of green.

The decking looks great, problem solved. Better to buy too much than too little, it took might cheap a$$ a long time to figure that out.

We used our fire pit tonight too, perfect night after the o mni directional wind died down.

Good deal, that’ll last 100 years in that space. Our outside deck is the same stuff, and while it doesn’t stay wet, it is fully exposed to all weather and so far as I can tell, most of it’s from 1987 and it’s “fine” - I’ve only replaced a couple small pieces due to rot.

Also, the bed of your truck is shockingly clean and nice.

It will definitely last long enough, that it won’t be my problem next time :)

Thank you! In person, it definitely has it’s scuff and scrapes and a couple of dents, but I try to take care of it. I love my truck.

Yeah, totally agree. There’s nothing worse than grinding your almost finished protect to a hal t, because you need three more boards. The night before I had calculated 45 boards, so I was going to buy 50. For some reason when it came time to buy it, I thought I needed 60. Of well!

We bought the fire pit last week, but it's been wet and or cold every night since. Last night was perfect for a fire, 51° and no wind. It's supposed to rain the next four nights again.

I did. Between looking up the wood the night before, and then actually going to buy it, the online price went down a buck a board. Plus I'll get my 11% off rebate.

Nice!

We don’t even have one in town anymore (Tulsa), but that jingle will surely be stuck in my head forever.
